Print, Tuft and Fold (cubed)

20 Jul

You may have heard us say a few times over the last couple of months how hard we’re working at the moment and wondered “on what?” Its also been the reason why the blog has been a little quiet for a while…sorry. It’s not that its been top secret its just that we wanted to get everything right before we let you all know about it.  We are seriously excited though!!

As well as having a stand at this years 100% Design we’ve also been asked by the creative directors Jam Design to put the PTF stamp on the 100% Features Boulevard, a real compliment for us as we’re only exhibiting in 100% Futures for the 2nd year.

So, what to expect? Well…high impact colour and pattern of course, with a collection of 18 seating cubes in various sizes, from the cute and tiny to the bold and jumbo.

We’ll be producing a collection of seating cubes made up of 3 clusters, each containing 6 cubes, a cluster for each member of PTF. This will include an array of kaleidoscopic-inspired carpet cubes from our carpet master of the group, Claire Alderdice; Print, Tuft and Folds resident printer Zoe Beck will be creating graphic city-inspired digitally printed cubes and Fold (aka Kim Bassett) will delight us all with her delicately pleated fabric cubes.

Positioned at the front entrance of Earl’s Court, Print Tuft & Fold aim to seize visitors’ attention with some seriously exuberant textiles as they enter the show.  Creating a colourful and comfy place to meet, relax, tweet and take in the great contemporary design.  So come and visit us and see what we’ve done to the place! http://www.100percentdesign.co.uk/

We also need to say a big thank you to all our sponsors, Hill & Co Rugs, D&G Upholstery, Fabpad (digital textile printers) and Reed Exhibitions.

Map Envelope

4 Jun

Found this great website today, Map Envelope.  It allows you to create an envelope with an inner lining which features a satellite photo of the location of your choice using the power that is Google Map.  Its really easy, just enter any location and add an optional custom message.  If you like what you see print it out and then all you have to do is fold it (they even include the fold lines).  The lining is a cool pic of the location you picked, with the address and a custom message you write attached to the location pin, just as it would appear on Google Maps.  I love it, sending good old fashioned letters just got cool again.  Print xx

Magnificent Maps

31 May

So I finally made it to the British Library to check out the current exhibition Magnificent Maps. Having been disappointed to find out the British Library is only open late on a Tuesday and closes at 6pm most nights I had to dash there last Thursday for the final half an hour of opening.  Despite this minor let down the exhibition did not disappoint! The maps are amazing!! I absolutely loved the explorer’s maps; with hand drawn animals, people and buildings showing you what they had encountered on their trip, they feel magical and fairytale like.  I could just imagine them being presented to the King or Queen on their return and them being blown away with their stories.  Really made me want to go off traveling, exploring new lands, well maybe I’ll just settle on booking my next holiday! If you get a chance and feel like seeing some Art with a twist then check it out. By the one obsessed with travel, Print xxx

Modern Masters

9 May

Hey girls have you seen this series on BBC 1, its called Modern Masters its a four-part series detailing the life and work of four giants of 20th century art: Henri Matisse; Pablo Picasso; Salvador and Andy Warhol. Exploring why these artists are considered so important and how their influence can still be seen in our world today. For example did you know that Dali designed the Chupa Chups logo? True!

I caught the 1st episode on BBC i player today, looking at Warhol, it was fascinating.  It’s not your normal art history lesson, the presenter Alastair Sooke showed us how Warhol made it as an Artist.  He basically created a brand, never explained his Art and put his ‘Andy Suit’ on whenever he was in public.  And this was all in the 50’s!   You should really check it out.  There’s also an exhibition at the V&A at the moment to co-inside with the series, fancy going?

Folded Font

7 May

Hey FOLD, I saw this on artatheart.co.uk and thought of you, it’s by Gesa Hansen.  We always seem to struggle to find the right font that sums you up as a designer and I think this could be it. What do you think? PRINT xxx

Sinning whilst spring cleaning

6 Apr

So I know I’m probably a little late but I decided it was time to organise the office and have a spring clean.  I start with all the best intentions but inevitably always get distracted.  This time it was a book that I brought a few years back from the V&A shop which I had completely forgotten about, Sinbiba by Delisia Howard and Barbara Hulanicki. As soon as I opened it I remembered why I had brought it, the illustrations are amazing and makes me just wish that I could draw like that.  Anyway I’m determined this time not to put it back on the shelf and forget about it, so its on the desk ready and waiting to inspire me for when I finally get round to designing my new Paris print.  Here’s a few pic’s to keep you content until I manage to finish off the new design work.
